The Young Creatives Collective was formed in Bexhill, East Sussex in 2023 as a mentoring project for young people from asylum seeker, refugee and migrant backgrounds to explore their creativity with a focus on supporting well-being through creative practice and vocational opportunities.

The collaboration between the young people, The Refugee Buddy Project, the De La Warr Pavilion, The Magnum Photos Foundation and Peter Marlow Foundation recently completed its second phase and has been supported by The University for the Creative Arts, its staff and students.

During the first phase of the project, funded by De La Warr Pavilion, participants were offered a series of creative workshops and worked towards an open studio event showcasing the results of the workshops, their personal projects, a collaborative mural and public programming as part of Refugee Week celebrations in June 2023.

The second phase of the project started in February 2024 focusing on personalised education, career progression pathways and industry and peer networks for the group as well co-creating an exhibition on the theme of “Our Home” to celebrate World Refugee Day at the De La Warr Pavilion as part of an extensive Refugee Week programme by The Refugee Buddy Project funded by the Arts Council of England.

We are working on exciting plans for the next phase of the project.
