The Peter Marlow Foundation aims to have an active gallery and workshop space, well used by photographers, visitors to Dungeness and schools. The gallery will be a destination for those interested in photography and a unique cultural space for visitors to Kent.

A space where photography is created as well as discussed, viewed and shared, a space to inspire a new generation of photographers.

The Foundation’s photographic archive will contain an extensive collection of Peter Marlow’s work and archive material alongside work from other photographers.

The Foundation’s library will house a prestigious collection of Magnum photography books; one of the only libraries in the world containing such an extensive collection of Magnum books for research and education.

The education work will be provided at the workshop and gallery space, in the surrounds of Kent and as outreach to local schools in the Kent area.

The Foundation will also launch the Peter Marlow Fellowship, awarded to eminent photographers and photography students. The aim is to support and encourage a new generation of social realist photographers and overlap skills and experience. The Foundation will offer four fellowships a year, providing a residency, accommodation and workspace at the Foundation, culminating in a group exhibition at the gallery.

In his lifetime Peter Marlow worked all over the world and his ever thoughtful photographs deal with close observation of the physical and personal landscape that is often overlooked. His lens was always on the human and social. The Foundation will continue in this spirit, providing a focus on social realism and people, both in the work it shares and in the activity it generates.
